Six weeks pregnant
By ella | July 31, 2007
I was given the all-clear at the hospital which has taken a fecking huge great weight off my mind.
********
A pregnant mother once wrote on Mumsnet (my favourite chat room): if you didn’t know you were pregnant, you’d think you were dying.
I’m really sick. I have struggled through a headache from hell - probably dehydration since I can’t tolerate water much at the moment, although I have moved onto ice cubes since I have sores round my mouth and other signs of dehydration - and the nausea seems to be increasing daily. I think I read somewhere that your pregnancy hormone levels double every day in the early days of pregnancy so today’s sickness is likely to be followed by double the sickness tomorrow. Yeah!
Next post, I promise, will not be about nausea. That will force me to think about something else.

Thank you for the many suggestions for ‘laying-down parenting’ activities. I plan to go out tomorrow morning because the kids are going to start battering me with their swords and hammers and anything else they can lay their hands on out of frustration with their useless layabout mother, but when I get back I am going to implement some of the suggestions so that I can recover, reclining gracefully on my chaise longue, looking as if I am in total control of things.
I’m wondering how many of my children’s first memories will be of me lying on the sofa?

I’m so glad you got the all-clear. I can’t even imagine how worrisome the whole thing must have been.
I hope the 1st trimester nausea goes away when you hit that magic 14 week mark. I know it’s miserable, but maybe it won’t last too much longer. I remember how horrible I felt last summer when I was pregnant. Tommy watched a LOT of TV during those months. Hang in there!
Oh fantastic news!!!! I am so, so relieved to hear that all is well with you and the baby.
Such good news about the appointment…so glad to hear it. Sorry about the nausea and I don’t know of any remedy for that. It was the one pregnancy woe that I never had to deal with, though I did seem to get just about everything else in the book. I have heard that ginger is supposed to help quite a bit…maybe you could look into that. In the meantime, get as much rest as you can. Remember the coma patient game you can play with the boys!
