I know I complain a lot but some days my parenting skills are not too bad
By ella | November 26, 2005
I’m quite hard on my kids. I want them to grow up to be considerate and polite, to take other people’s feelings into account and generally to be nice. If they hurt someone, accidentally or otherwise, or if they are rude I am quick to let them know that they have upset me. I know that some other parents find this a bit strange given that they are quite young still. But today we had this conversation around supper time:
Harry, the three year old: What’s for supper, Mummy?
Me: Roast chicken, potatoes and broccoli (I know he will eat this meal but it is not a particular favourite)
Harry: That sounds yummy Mummy (accompanied by sweet if slightly over-egged smile). I’m going to clear my plate tonight. Then you can tell Daddy I did. Thank you for making me something so nice.
Suppertime:
Harry: This is really yummy, Mummy. Thank you for cooking it.
William, the two year old: Tank-you Mummy. Love you Mummy.
Both clear their plates, wipe their hands and faces, climb down and kiss me before running off to play.
Some days I completely adore my children.
