Nipples, blisters and other associated joys
By ella | January 16, 2005
The entire time I breastfed Second Son I suffered from recurring mastitis caused by a nipple blister. (If I was a little better brought up, I might not have mentioned the n-word and called it a ‘milk’ blister, but let’s just call it what it really is: a little bugger of a blister that, when your baby latches on, makes it feel like your nipple has been gripped in a vice AND - oh if that weren’t joy enough - that gives you such chronic mastitis that, even when your baby isn’t even anywhere near you, makes you feel like your entire boob has been gripped in a vice and then burnt with a red hot poker. So if you haven’t already got the idea: IT HURTS LIKE HELL.)
For this I think I deserve a medal.
To have continued to breastfeed him for a year under these tortuous conditions I think I deserve a knighthood. Therefore I shall be writing to the Queen to recommend myself for inclusion in the next honours list.

Lovely description. Just makes you wanna have some babies. Not.
I don’t know how you managed to breastfeed so long. I’d have given a bottle at the first sign of pain. You definitely deserve a medal.

WOW!! A whole year! I thought I was a martyr for enduring six weeks of nipple blisters on just my left breast. I was wrong. You win.
Hurrah!
