Waving, not drowning
By ella | November 30, 2004
Could I have a more accident prone child? After last week’s meeting with the door frame (which has resulted in a nasty bruise and a graze) Second Son also has two scratches on his face (after a confrontation with Eldest Son) and another bruise on his forehead where he threw himself at the bed as an expression of his general fed-upness at the way he was being treated (which was that he was confined to his room while Mummy changed the bedsheets because he was hindering rather than helping the proceedings). Then today he fell off the soft play equipment at toddler group and landed head first on the only bit of hard floor in the vicinity, then came home and fell over the back of the sofa, landing head first on the wooden floor. I know he’s OK though because he lies there, momentarily stunned, saying “yeah, yeah” before I even get as far as asking “Are you all right?”. It’s like the waterskier’s arm signal, his way of communicating he’s survived whatever befell him. He’s the swimmer out there in the sea saying look, I’m waving Mummy, not drowning.
